Using projects offline

Oropod can download a project’s files to your device, so you can watch them without a connection, e.g. on set or while travelling. New clips are downloaded as they arrive, and Oropod frees up space again when the device runs low.

Turning on automatic downloads

The first time you open a project, Oropod asks Download for offline use?. Choose Download to start. You can change your mind later in the settings:

• Tap/click A (the settings button) above the project list

• Tap/click A (Offline settings)

• Tap/click A (the source), where a source is a place the project’s files come from, e.g. a Frame.io project

• Turn on A (Download for offline use)

A source used by more than one project is only downloaded once, and its setting applies to all of them.

Following progress

• On the project list, a progress bar on a project’s poster shows how far the download has come. It turns into a plane symbol once every file is on the device.
• In the file list, a plane symbol marks each clip that’s available offline. See Using the file list.
• In Offline settings, each source shows its own progress. Its page counts the posters and files downloaded so far.

Download order

Oropod downloads posters first, then circled takes before the rest, starting with the newest shooting day. With more than one source, those at the top of Offline settings come first. Tap/click Re-prioritize to drag them into a different order.

Storage space

Oropod always leaves at least 5 GB free on the device. When space runs out, downloads pause and the source shows Low storage.

With B (Free up space automatically) turned on, Oropod then deletes downloaded files to make room, starting with those you’re least likely to need: takes that aren’t circled, the oldest shooting days, and sources at the bottom of Offline settings. Posters are kept, so you can still browse everything. Choosing Download when Oropod first asks turns this on too.

To delete a source’s files yourself, turn off Download for offline use, then tap/click Flush offline data…. Hiding a project also deletes its files, see Hiding projects.

Cellular data

Downloads wait for Wi-Fi or a wired connection unless you turn on Use cellular and hotspot data in Offline settings. While Low Data Mode is on for a network, files don’t download over it, though posters still do.

Tips

• Oropod needs to confirm your access to a project at least every two weeks. A device that stays offline for longer locks the project’s sources until it reconnects.
